Sunday Trip Destination Announcements

Destinations for the upcoming Sunday trip is announced on the website on the Monday prior to the trip.

Due to changing weather patterns such as warm thaws, we monitor the weather predictions closely and select locations that have the best prospects for good skiing conditions for our members.

As a result, destinations may be changed during the week prior to Sunday in order to bring members to locations with snow that is good for skiing. Please check the website regularly for updates.

Destinations

These destinations have been selected because they can accommodate 2 buses of Trakkers members, have indoor washrooms, and offer trails and rentals that meet members' desire for classic, skate and snowshoeing.

Arrowhead Provincial Park (early departure 8am!)

The park is located just north of Huntsville, Ontario, on the beautiful Canadian Shield. There are a total of 33 km of groomed ski trails (22 classic and 11 skate). The park also has a 1.3 km ice skating trail, winding through the campgrounds in a loop.  This trail is kept smooth by Zamboni, so think about bringing your ice skates too! 

A large new visitors' centre contains the rentals service, and which also sells pre-packaged snacks only, so Trakkers and guests ensure you bring plenty of food for the day.  There are a few microwaves. A new "pavillion" building provides space for overflow. Finally, there is a brand new, fully provisioned waxing room (5 ski forms, built in ventilation system, and really good heating so you're not freezing while you're waxing your skis).

Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre (early departure 8am!)

A beautiful destination near Parry Sound. With more than 30 km of trails winding through lush forest, Georgian Nordic offers great cross country skiing for the novice through to the expert. Georgian Nordic offers performance (combined classic and skate), back country and single track trails and snowshoe trails. Georgian Nordic does not offer food service but has everything else. A comfy chalet, indoor washrooms, classic and skate ski rentals, as well as snowshoe rental.

Hardwood Ski and Bike (9am departure)

This resort located close to Barrie and has classic and skate ski trails with 8 different loops ranging from 3.5 to 22 km, plus 12 km of snowshoeing trails, rolling trails through hardwood and pine forests. There is a food truck on site, (usually serving French fries, hot dogs, chili and hot chocolate), a retail ski shop, as well as ski and snowshoe rentals, and a heated day lodge that has tables and chairs, indoor washrooms and storage shelves for your stuff.

Highlands Nordic (9am departure)

Located on the top of the escarpment and close to the village of Duntroon and has trails with breathtaking views of Georgian Bay. The 24 km trail network offers skiing for beginners to experts. The trails are groomed and track-set daily for both classic and skating techniques. There are 7.5 km of snowshoe trails. The Highlands Lodge houses an excellent cafeteria, boxed lunch room, pro-shop, rental department, service shop, waxing facilities, change rooms, and showers. There is a microwave oven on site in the cafeteria.

Horseshoe Resort - Cross Country (9am departure)

Located at the edge of the Copeland Forest and at the junction of 2 snow belts. There are 40 km of groomed and track set trails through scenic rolling woodland. The trails are suited to all abilities, including 9 km of trails for snowshoeing.  There is a cafeteria, large eating area, ski rentals and a place for waxing. This resort also has a retail shop.

Kawartha Nordic Centre (9am departure, 4:30pm depart Kawartha)

Located 40 km north of Peterborough. There are 34 km of classic trails and 13.5 km of skating trails plus, for snowshoers, 10 km of wilderness trails following a loop through beautiful Canadian Shield terrain. 

There is no cafeteria or other food service on site, so Trakkers and guests need to bring their own food. This is a smaller facility with one two-level log cabin with a wood stove on each level and an outdoor access to heated washrooms in a separate trailers. There is an on-site ski rental run by a local retailer. On the ski trails there are wood-stove heated huts for a cozy warm up, social break and to eat a snack. There are also fun classic-only trails that can to a warm-up hut.

Scenic Caves Nordic Centre (9am departure)

On the highest point of the Niagara Escarpment, approximately 10 km west of Collingwood. The trails range from beginner to intermediate. The area offers beautiful scenery, two lookouts over Georgian Bay and the Osler Valley, wooded wilderness and usually good snow conditions. There are 27 km of combined classic and skate skiing trails, along with 10 km of snowshoe trails.  

Facilities include a pleasant chalet and a heated lunchroom with wood stove. Drinks and snacks are available as well as limited hot lunch options such as soup, chili, fries, burgers, grilled cheese, you may wish to bring your own lunch. There are ski rentals, waxing facilities, and a small store for ski gear. There is also a warm up hut at the Lookout point with fireplace, treats and refreshments, which are available most weekends. Trakkers usually has the use of a separate building which is a large 2 level log cabin with heated washrooms next door.

Sunday Trip Costs

Your membership includes one Sunday bus trip fare. Children 18 and under, accompanied by an adult, can travel for $10. Group trail fees range from $10 to $26. Classic Ski rentals are available at most resorts at a cost of approximately $15-$33 for a full day. (More for Skate skis, less for Snowshoes)

Members' guests are welcome up to a limit of two reserved trips per season. Guests who have used up their two reservations are welcome to become members. Standby guests are welcome if seats are available (see Sunday Trips policy for more details).

Guest Waiver

Guests will be expected to have a signed waiver ready to hand to the bus captain when boarding the bus. Download Guest Waiver form here

Bus Fare

Irrespective of the method of payment, the fares are:

  • Advance registration (member/guest): $22
  • Standby passenger (member/guest): $27
  • Child (18 and under): $10

 

There are two ways to pay for your bus fare:

1. Online paymentTrakkers Ski Club prefers and strongly encourages advance registration and online payment. Bus fare can be paid by Interac Online or credit card when you sign up for your trip. Your payment will appear on the passenger list. If you need a reminder of how to sign-up please see instructions.

2. Cash – To be paid to the bus captain when boarding the bus.

Pick Up Location

Pick up location is the North West corner of Bloor St. W. and Indian Rd. just east of the Keele subway station. The buses leave at 9:00 am sharp and return by 6:00 pm. There is plenty of free parking Sundays at the Keele subway parking lot (see below).

Departure for Home

The buses leave the ski resort at 4:00 p.m. in December and January, 4:30 p.m. in February and March. Please be in your seat - the same seat on the same bus that you arrived in - before departure time.
